Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 TeachOnline@UW Learning Community

Selected participants are expected to participate fully in online and in-person sessions and activities (listed below). 

It is recommended that participants consult with an instructional designer, technologist, or colleague with online teaching experience while implementing course plans and activities developed as part of the learning community. You can participate for the full academic year or just one semester.  Stipends based on participation.

Orientation and Transitioning to Online Modules

Two short online modules completed independently prior to fall 2017 first in-person session (explained below).
  • Orient to the learning community and online workshops and technologies.
  • Discuss what a quality online course entails.
  • Examine how an online course can transform teaching and learning for students and instructors.
 6 hours (approx.)

Fall 2017 Semester

Online modules start September 13 and end November 30.

"Plan & Design" Workshop Series

Online modules + face-to-face sessions every other week.


  • Focus on strategies, activities, and technologies to design a quality online course.
  • In-depth topics include organizing an online course and developing learning objectives, assessment strategies, instructional materials, and learning activities.

3-4 hours a week completing online course activities.

1.5 hours face-to-face  or 1 hour webinar every other week.

Spring 2018 Semester

Dates and times: TBD based on the majority of applicants' availability.

"Facilitation & Management"  Workshop Series

Online modules + face-to-face sessions every other week.


  • Focus on strategies, best practices, and resources for teaching and facilitating an online course. 
  • In-depth topics include managing course workload, student communication and engagement, preparation tasks prior to teaching an online course, and facilitating student participation.

3 hours a week completing online course activities

 

1.5 hours face-to-face or 1 hour webinar every other week.
